Chumbe Island

Chumbe Island is a small privately owned island a few kilometres off the main island of Zanzibar, known for its ecological innovation and exceptional coral reefs.
It is a private nature reserve that was developed from 1991 for the conservation and sustainable management of uninhabited Chumbe Island off Zanzibar, one of the last pristine coral islands in the region.
The island has two historic buildings, a small mosque and a lighthouse, both built around the beginning of the 20th century.
In Chumbe island, you get to explore the stunning coral reef sanctuary and coral rag forest, relax in the exclusive eco-bungalows and savour traditional Zanzibari cuisine
